Broadcasting live from Jack Straw studios in the heart of the University District. This is the live room on Seattle bringing you an incredible variety of life almost every Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. I'm your host ABC and tonight our very special guest of the evening the distractions. I am.
Well I am the. Last of. The AM. Band A lead the way I am a I AM I AM THE LEAD. Legs are
and easy the leg the leg was the legs and I am the easy eh. A.
Legolas Leno or an legs or an a leg or an.
Somebody a an AFC A and a NCAA. We told CNN a audience was a and was a AM. That is directions on the live room I'm going to give you an idea of what we've got coming up down the
road combo Craig next week will be our seventy fifth show not counting repeats and we've got critters Bogen and Jason Trachtenberg on April Fools Day I think Elvis is going to be playing with him down the road even for kitchen radio and swamp mama Johnson is that right Greg Yeah. OK. They're my new favorite band. But the distractions here tonight Terry one introduced the band for Buddy at home. Yeah. I sing on guitar we got Dave bass we have Leslie on drums we have pepper. Yeah I want to talk a little bit about the shows you've got coming up right off the bat the firehouse and Redmond as an all ages show that's on the 18th of this month. And that used to be the reason why. And then we've got the Java jump and also all ages on the twenty six and thirty first color box with best kissers and popsicle. The two all ages shows how many all day just shows do you guys get to do since there really aren't that many places to play. What I want to get this over there. Only when we did since we've been up here from Los
Angeles is in Portland that was it. And is that something that that kind of bugs you at all because there are some places like the velvet Elvis is one in the place in Redmond and I had heard of this place in five years I really knew it. I think it's pretty new but I mean it doesn't bother us actually actually kind of cool because you know we've been playing all ages shows like down in L.A. for the past year or two years and so are you so that means it's just as cool as playing you know 21 and over. He's on his way to play people like you. That's cool cool. Look for more crazy fall kid stuff because I'm out of control. You know better. Yeah which is often the problem of why there aren't all ages shows just because they get out of control. While I'm ok we'll talk some more at the next break but right now we've got more from the distractions and oh yeah thanks to gravity bar and American music they brought in the monitors. Go ahead guys.
The Legoland I am led the I am.
Eh
eh eh and. Eh I am led
the way. CMC and the Sam Rainsy a Lemsip a be a
and the son. What's.
Up. Eh eh eh bowlers are plenty
of leg. I am. You're listening to live rumah Greg Fergal production on K CMU we're broadcasting from Jack
Straw studios in Seattle's U district each week live room presents live performances of greatly expanding variety. Special thanks to American music and the gravity bar for their support they may need to build a bathroom. Feel free to go ahead and go. Pepper I think you needed to go powder your nose. Speaking of unbelievable variety Greg has been putting together a list of all the shows we've ever done and they truly are unbelievably various We had six in the clip rap band was our second show and sister psychic their big label guys and suffering Gail's they were really interesting. Tiny had orchestra tour de tricks and probably one of my favorite shows anyway. The list goes on and on and I also want to thank the gravity bar who's been coming through lately with all kinds of good food and drink for us and American music who took over with the monitor support and all the fine volunteers that make our show possible. We have the distractions in the studio tonight and just are not a headphone cord there.
That's OK. We talked a little bit in the last little break about L.A. You guys were in L.A. And let's just go and start from the beginning. The history of the band Leslie you want to tell us how it all started for a band play a kind of music we wanted to do which is basically we've been doing for ages and it's kind of seems like it's kind of become the thing these days kind of what we're doing and it's basically been playing for years that will to do it up here. You couldn't get any kind of a dryer and you know I don't know. It seemed like it was hard to get any. Draw unless you if you know the flavor of the month. Yeah. To put it bluntly but and they took it away. Yeah I got I just needed change for a while you know. So I moved on it is me and me and Leslie are from from up here originally and then we all looked up down in L.A. like you said we've been playing this style for a long time. Much better in L.A. because you came back or better there than it is
now it's better here than it is there. It's pretty bad there now club scenes totally died out and now it's told you want to know that last three years of ours and we left a lot better here than it was when we left. Not 85. Basically not the degrees either. Not the temperature right now. So we were talking before the show about some shows you've done lately had a big show with beer and one last night with you played at the meet men last night at the off ramp and we played that week before that with fear it was a really good shows. It was quite an experience. It's fun. Now the fear or the family suddenly banned anyway. Legendary old time punk rock band. Did you get any pointers from him or anything like that. I learned I learned a few new words flying cups flying through the air and I was glad it wasn't a beer bottle instead of like what it pulled at the audience and beat the shit
beat him up and took his shoes off what was there. That's crazy that was the words that I learned. Anyway so the so it we're talk a little bit about 85 and the old punk rock type scene is that is that kind of where your influences lies. It's kind of early 80s and late 70s even like more mid 70s British you know. I mean like more the British punk scene like you know the Pistols Clash Generation X things like that. I also love the Ramones or you know anything from that era is pretty good. Anybody else on a more diverse and Leslie but everything like punk rock I like pop like everything kind of try to kind of put it all together combine it. That's basically what we sound like. I imagine that's what I say kind of thing. You kind of want to dress in metal myself. Speaking of the kind of music you're doing now it certainly has gotten more commercial whaling.
This type of music is making a lot of people a lot of money. Do you see that the more mainstream and acceptable music is a bad thing or a good thing. I don't know it could it could go either way I guess you know it could just it could burn out and be another fad or we could. People can like you know stick around and take it seriously you know it happens to someone that's always been doing if it's not some band also said massive big right now it's just for a band sound just like that they've been planning for four months or six months and all this and they get a record deal and become big. It's not really what they're all about. Their plan something else just a few months before the previous band sounded like Allison Mudbone or something. But it's cool for those people who've been doing it for years you know and I think it's I think it's definitely got it has opened doors for you know a bigger crowd like you said. So it's more accessible now. Do you think the music has changed all the music itself is when it when it
does hit the mainstream because we'll take a veil like OK Green Day and some of the early stuff was definitely a lot more raw than than it is now and you know I could also have to do with the production of the having more money to spend in the studio also because the old stuff the way it sounded and it would have with the money they put in a new studio could end up sounding the way it does now to their record that new album like that with a few hundred dollars if I want to sound like you know your stuff in the garage and put it on a four track and releases it in a band he gets that same you know same chance in a big studio of course or to make it want to sound better and that's you know that's based on how do you think your sound would change if you had a whole bunch of money when the studio we're talking. Like Dave's going to play three or four different guitar parts or lots of overdubbing. And I know that even today it's basically like trying like you know like live like it is right now because that's you know that's when you see it or show it's I mean some sound it's the same way that one when we have recorded it pretty much just did it all live any and anything you're working on right
now in the studio at all. Just a few more songs in the studio a few weeks back in the shop and it out you know and right now it's not really you know we just got done with that and it's going to see what kind of response we get from it which I think is going to be good because I think there's a mailbox in Adana. All right well let's see. OK. Well go ahead and play some more music and we'll talk a little bit more because I know we're going to have plenty of time to talk and play and have all kinds of fun. Yeah. OK. More. Fabulous music with your new favorite band. It's the distractions in the live room. Eh
I am I am I am. I am an elite elite. I am. Ill just be a leg. Eh
I am a bit late but the I am. This to lend me a hey I am. Ill be ill. I am I am I

LME Alexandria led area. I am in the area to the Arabic Legolas AOA. The distractions on the live room if you're interested in getting your own
outfit on the program you can call or find producer Greg Fergal and his part. Action area at 3 6 0 5 7 9 15 10 and cinema tape and all that good stuff will give you the address and all that and we'll hook you up. What else do I got going on here oh I want to talk about some of the weird shows we've done on the show. We've had two bands change their names either after or during the show glory stompers did the show week later change the name of the model rockets. Apparently there's another glory stoppers out there and sell a bit twist came in and change their name mid show to Gerken. I guess that was a good one. Mitch one more time where you guys are planned. We get firehouse and Redmond on the 18th used to be that NY job a jump in five on the twenty sixth and the color box on the thirty first with the best kissers in the world and popsicle. What else would you talk about. OK let's talk about when you first
played in the band. Each one of you. What was what was it like when you play a different instrument or anything like that we'll start with Terry. I started to play inside it when my first band that I sucked. So yeah okay I did and so I tried to sing in the band and I said I sucked at that too but I still haven't got the sense enough to quit yet I guess nobody else can sing is not quite as bad as you. Because of that. OK we'll move over to Dave. Your first band experience Dave 30 40 who played around town came you know the best player on the planet probably by the age of 16. Yeah. Yeah. That's about it I've been playing for a while I was doing this nice be really metal. Leslie I.
Started playing about 18 years old. I was kind of late when the start line. He's playing this kind of music I guess. And we move to pepper. I was like 13 in my first man and it was actually me and my friend was a guitar player told me he wrote a bunch of songs and I didn't know anything about music it was actually Louie Louie and he said he wrote it and we went and we went and had some girl seen wrote new lyrics and went and played it at our church and I was like 13 now it's like my first and I started playing clubs and I was like 15 and got like a whole new band got people actually knew what they were doing. When I moved to L.A. when I was about 17 and then I started playing this man. Now you do have a stand up drum kit no seat involved at all. It's a rare thing and I'm wonder if anybody's ever hassled you about that or or anything. Yeah actually I just started doing and then upon my stool off so I couldn't stop so I just had I just had to like keep on doing it. And when you get to the store like 20
bucks that's not bad. That's not bad. OK what else are you guys in Tacoma. Is that where you live in Seattle. How different from from living how different from living in L.A. is living in Seattle. As far as just atmosphere and stuff. Pretty much the same except for a nice different scene different people happening up here than it is in right now. And I just every day hang out in the daytime we're going out. There are shorts all day all year long and they're in the middle of the day and when we woke up in the morning the three afternoon one to pick seven letters or so dehydrated going to reincarnate our big gulps and burgers. Okay what else am I to say. It's our guitar player's birthday and I just want to wish you Happy birthday happy birthday Dave I love you Dave. Forty two young forty two. Dave you're looking good. What's playing really weird shows that has just been really
weird seem like something happened that you didn't expect or it was just a really bad feeling I think some of the band names that we play with like a lot of times will will throw us because we'll think that they're just like not what they really are you know like. Naming names that we thought somebody was like really like death metal or you know they turned out to be a really cool band and we were like we we thought we were going to die. You know Carol that end of the night. Much To top that. I mean I think these guys might have got hurt. What would be a really good show for you guys to play at your dream show. Oh. Yeah. We got paid a lot of money. I want to play CB TVs in New York. That's just some stupid little goal I have Dave already played there when he was like 14. Look out for you that rusts some small like that really I mean you show it.
You would would pay us first of all I like to get paid I'd be great. And we paid but not paid paid you know. I'm talking like a bunch of Myra's talking about moving up from 99 cent burgers to regular like sizzle or something. That's our set menu for the night and I talk about that. It's my dream. Do you think you guys could ever reach such a level of success that that the band would would not be cool anymore would be fun in the morning thing like that. Because I pretty much always muggle. Born cool there's no turning back now. OK well we've got a couple more songs to go. So let's go ahead and hit up the distractions in case you missed live or anything. Ariel
as a I am the lead or an. EO Alexandra to ease. The way I am led the way I am a Excellency. Ian A I am a I
am in a radius of. Insanity and the Serbian if you are an was a and it was. Tractions on the law of room.
We've got about 15 minutes left you guys have anything else you can do. Fifteen minutes I think. Think of any other any other thing you're working on. Any any groaners tunes you know or if you guys have covered Teen Spirit the kids love that one. Oh yeah. That we can do some pretty cool carjacked. You got a card trick for a sniper they don't work well on the radio anyway. That's OK. OK. Let's see I want to make sure to mention your shows once more. Yeah firehouse lead to job a job in Fife on the 26 but those are all ages color box on the thirty first of this month.
In this it's been the distractions come up down the road we've got a combo. Oh yeah. Critters bugging on the 25th Jason Trachtenberg on April Fools Day and I think her Cobain's me playing with him then kitchen radio down the road and swamp mama Johnson. They're all playing a show. Whatever was mixed and recorded live had Jack Straw Productions a nonprofit studio facility the Jack Straw mixes unionised dug hair systems from Steve Dettori and Phil waters Leiberman is produced and directed by GREG WARDLE productions in conjunction with a special thanks to American music and the Gerber avatar for their support. I knew Jose Beason invited join us next week when we will feature come Coreg until next week. See.
