I don't know if it's true or not, but I'm sure it's true, but I'm sure it's true, but I'm sure it's true, but I'm sure it's true or not. Now, you're going to see a lot of awful games this year, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if you're a mayor, if but if you're by
to order. If you'd like to talk with Norm about anything concerning sports, give us a call. Now stay tuned. Norm's coming up next. Good morning. Thank you for waiting. You're out with Norm. Hi, Norm. I'm fine. Thanks. How are you? Not too bad, buddy. You know, oh, before I forget, because sometimes we forget to say these things. It's been a long time since I've told you how much I like your work. I appreciate your Bob. That's very nice. So I tell you now, you tend to take people for granted sometimes. I also said but Denver is on a roll. Now, the Jets beat them. I thought pretty thoroughly. I was wondering if you think the Jets are on a roll now. To some degree, yeah, I still have my worries about the Jets. I have my worries about every team in the National Football League, quite frankly. But the Jets qualify as a contender. I mean, if you had to pick the four or five teams that are super bowl bound right now, the Jets probably belong in that class. I mean, the Yankee fans still associate Bucky with the glory days when the ball landed in a net
against Mike Torres and the Bionic Durable Don Zimmer was denied an American league championship. Here's the picks in the seven races, okay? Just for the fun of it. At the first race, I know everybody expects me to go with Polish Navy, just on a pure hunch bet. Polish Navy is a terrific horse. Capote is a wonderful horse. Gulch, that angel Cordero is riding as a terrific horse. I'm going to go against all three of them. I'm going to go with a horse called Demons Be Gone. Hi, my name is Norm Hitzkes. I've been doing sports in Dallas Fort Worth now for the better part of 15 years. I'm the broadcaster for the Texas Rangers on their televised home games and for the NBA Dallas Mavericks, right? A weekly column for the Dallas Morning News and the Dallas downtown News, do a daily talk show. But by far, the most successful and longest running association has been that with KERAM 90.1. Started 11.5 years ago with the suggestion that we try a weekend talk show on a week-to-week basis just to see how it went. Now 11.5 years later, it's been the station's best supported
show and the highest critically acclaimed. Here's what the people in Dallas Fort Worth have to say about Norm. Norm Hitzkes, sports commentator extraordinaire is the best thing that's happened to Dallas Fort Worth mornings since coffee. Norm is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge. He can make sports interesting to people who aren't interested in sports. Norm is one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever met. Norm's legendary photographic memory is the trivia fans best friend and his candid comments are every sports fans delight. These are just a few of the reasons why in 1985, Norm Hitzkes was named Dallas's best sportscaster by Texas Monthly Magazine. And what do the other sports journalists think about Norm? What do I think of when I think of Norm Hitzkes? I think of a bald headed guy with a big nose who has every broadcasting job in the world. I mean, he's every place and he should be because I've never seen a man who has his
enthusiasm for sports. One thing I've never understood about Norm is when does a guy sleep? He gets more live air time than the weather channel. But I think that's an indication that people like to hear Norm's opinions on sports and I'm one of those people have been for a long time. One of the great attributes I think that Norm has is the fact that he will go anywhere to do his show. If he has a commitment to his show, he will be on that show. We did Ranger baseball together and we were on the road doing television games in Detroit and there was no phone for him to do his hour and a half show back to the studio. He common-deered a closet at Tiger Stadium. He talked a telephone man into putting a telephone, one single telephone into this closet and I guarantee you that for an hour and a half and about a hundred degree weather, Norm sat in this closet on the phone doing his hour and a half talk show. To me, that's as dedicated as I've ever seen a sportscaster. Norm is a man for all sports, a man for all seasons and I think Norm can dig in to any subject, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, you name it. He's going to
dig in and he's going to do his homework and he's going to know what he's talking about. His scope is a national scope and I think the fans today care about their own local clubs, their local area and angles on stories but the overall picture is important to them. How does their local club, how do the Dallas Cowboys fit into the national scheme of things? I think that's the important part of being a fan and that's the part that Norm can bring to them as to how they fit into that certain area of the national scope and when he does it on a national scale, I think the different parts of the country can come together and understand where they stand in the scheme of things. And there is not a single sportscaster in the country who does the homework that can tell you the ins and outs of every major sporting event like Norm Hitzker's camp. You know it's amazing. Even in a market place as large as Dallas Fort Worth, if you'll spread a few dollars around town, you can get even the top journalist in the city to say something nice about you.
KERFM has big plans for 1987. To take this kind of successful local programming to a national level, we plan eight one hour weekend sports specials, corresponding to the top sporting events in this country, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, the Kentucky Derby. We'll have call-ins from listeners around the country, top name guests and commentary. It's a unique idea. It's never been tried before. It's a chance for local stations and listeners to be a part of the absolute top level sporting events in this country and it's an opportunity for sponsors to take part in a very high profile sports forum. We hope you'll be interested in joining us.
