Greetings. I'm Christie the wordsmith. Last time on this program I examined one of my maternal grandmother's favorite words addle pated an adjective with origins in the Old English language addlepated literally means rotten headed with the extended meanings of confused the wilderness or perplexed the pate in addle pated is an obsolete term for the head or the brain and is also seen in such archaic formulations as muddle pated and shallow pated. Another etymological sibling in the pate family is Twitter pated meaning giddy with infatuation. Americans first heard the word Twitter pated in the original animated Walt Disney movie classic Bambi released in one thousand forty two. The character friend observing the amorous rituals of the forest creatures says with a chuckle nearly everybody gets Twitter pated in the spring time. The anonymous screenwriter who coined this word for the Disney movie patterned it after the older addlepated inserting Instead the charming verb Twitter the verbal representation of the sound of happy little birds. A
contributor to the online Urban Dictionary deftly defines Twitter pated as an enjoyable disorder characterized by feelings of excitement anticipation high hopes and getting this which occurs simultaneously when experiencing a new love. The word Twitter pated implies that an infatuated lover has a dizzy head full of fluttering chirping birds. I'm Christie the wordsmith but Dave are bores. CHRISTIE The wordsmith is sponsored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Zoot enterprises a high tech firm in Bozeman Montana offering challenging careers and innovative solutions for the financial services industry.
