- Description
- Episode Description
- At Stratford, Connecticut, in 1963 Morris Carnovsky played the title role in Shakespeares King Lear. Elliot Norton, Peabody Award-winning drama critic for the Boston Record-American and Sunday Advertiser, discusses with Mr. Carnovsky his interpretation of this challenging role. Most actors face this part with trepidation. Morris Carnovsky tells how, after carefully circling the part, he solved the difficult problems involved in the portrayal of Lear; problems may not only concerning the intense mental concentration the part calls for, but also the great physical strength. After detailed discussion of the characterization of Lear, Mr. Carnovsky considers the meaning of King Lear to a modern audience. Morris Carnovsky was produced in Boston by WGBH-TV.
