- Description
- Episode Description
- This program will examine the elements of hatred and violence in any society which move into the political arena. Guests will examine the causes of hatred in our society and what people who hate do politically. They will discuss ways to combat such hatred. The basis for this program is summed up in President Lyndon B. Johnsons address to both houses of the United States Congress, delivered Wednesday, November 27. The President said: . [L]et us put an end to the teaching and preaching of hate and evil and violence. Let us turn away from the fanatics of the far left and far right, from the apostles of bitterness and bigotry, those defiant of law and those who pour venom into our nations blood stream. The host of this show is William Lee Miller, member of the faculty of Yale Universitys Divinity School and a writer on political and social affairs. The guests include: Henry Steele Commager, well know author and professor of history at Amherst College; Dr. Robert McIver, former professor of sociology at Columbia University and now the president of the New School of Social Research; Dr. Graham Sykes, executive director of the American Sociological Association; Dr. Kenneth Clark, author of the highly regarded study of race prejudice entitled Prejudice and Your Child and professor of psychology at the City College of New York; Marquis Childs, well known commentator and syndicated journalist.
