From deep inside your radio, well, back beside the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, ladies and gentlemen, in New Orleans, Louisiana, haven't been here for the longest time and, uh, yeah, yeah, I missed it. Um, and what's been going on here in my absence, you might ask. I might ask. Well, for one thing, uh, the mayor has, uh, recommended that anybody who still thinks they're going to be moving back to New Orleans, should, um, in the upcoming census, say they live in New Orleans. I'm, uh, I'm not making that up. That's what the mayor recommended. If you, if you think you're going to be moving back to New Orleans, tell the census taker you live in New Orleans. And it does make good sense because since he lives in a dream world, why shouldn't the rest of us, you know, it just, let's move in, let's move into, to his world. Um, but the, um, the news is actually a little better. Um, there was a report that came out late in the week by respected institution.
And that's where I'd like to live in a respected institution that, uh, says New Orleans has weathered the recession far better than most American cities, uh, barely lost any jobs, uh, people are moving in, uh, all sorts of good indicators, the, uh, the only one that, that appears to be lacking, the report points out is we appear not to have paid much attention, they say, to the problem of affordable housing. Affordable housing for low paid workers. Fortunately, we don't have any low paid workers in New Orleans. So that's nothing we have to be concerned about. And of course, the Army Corps of Engineers is always at it. Uh, a few days ago, they missed the deadline only by 20 months to report to Congress on a plan for a new more robust so called category five system of, uh, protection for the city, except that they didn't submit a plan. They instead submitted, well, we could do this, or we could do this, basically a Chinese menu.
And the Obama administration's response has been, did you hear the crickets? Cause I did. Ladies and gentlemen, deadline, Sacramento, because of the week economy, the California Air Resources Board has extended the deadline for distributors and retailers of composite panel, paneling to sell off the product that doesn't meet the state's new formaldehyde emission limits. So better hurry if you want to do that. Better hurry if you want to get that formaldehyde filled composite paneling. Your health is sure, but the economy is weak. The July 1, 2010 deadline for retailers of finished goods to sell off any non-compliant products remains in place. This according to furniture today. There's, uh, the Air Resources Board is surveying panel distributors to find out how much non-compliant inventory was still in the pipeline. I'd keep my head out of that pipeline.
New formaldehyde limits in California took effect in January. Uh, sending caps on emissions allowed from hardwood plywood, particle board and medium density fiber board. You know it is MDF, don't you? These are materials commonly used in Frany G. So because of the week economy, you are going to be breathing more formaldehyde. Don't bother to thank them. Ladies and gentlemen, you know, I, I like to keep track of the corrections in the Los Angeles dog trainer, although I've, I've desisted from reporting them to you on a weekly basis because of listener demand. But this one, I think really does deserve some attention. In the big picture column in Monday's entertainment section, an item about the film, Men of Israel, described Michael Lucas of New York based Lucas entertainment as a former porn actor whose company produces gay porn. A spokesman for Lucas says, Oh, contrary, he still has an active career as a performer in the adult industry. You don't want to be insult in those.
Still active porn performers by intimating that they don't have it anymore, would you? No, you wouldn't. I feel better now knowing that the clear channel doesn't just pick on me and deny me the opportunity to advertise on their fine and soon to be bankrupt advertising media. The music first coalition, which is a group that wants performers to be paid royalties when their music is played on the radio right now, only the writers and their publishers are paid a royalty. Performers are, you know, hey, it's promotion. You should be grateful. So this coalition wanted to buy ads because this proposal is going through Congress and clear channel said no. They actually got a member of the four tops who still alive to cut the commercial. Clear channel said, of course, we rejected the ads. We wouldn't take ads from serious XM either. Why should we air ads designed to put us out of business? This is not about the ads. It's a publicity stunt.
If they're concerned about getting their message out, there's an abundance of other media outlets that would jump at the chance to take their money, especially in this economy. I think that's good, good advice for every advertiser. But that's just me. Me, I'm Hello. Welcome to the show. Music. Music. Music.
