Series Description
"For many Chicagoans, 'Chicago Tonight' with John Callaway is the second half of the news. It's where they turn, four nights a week, to learn the whole story or to find what the city's leaders and thinkers, and the people involved with the story, think about the issues and events in the news. "Since the election of Harold Washington, Chicago has been struggling with questions about race relations. As the questions have been debated they have expanded from black/white relations to relations between the races. "The service 'Chicago Tonight' gives the city is exemplified by these three programs which address different aspects of race in Chicago. The first program is a general discussion of racial politics in Chicago. The second is a look at a fight between leaders of the Vietnamese community which provides a rare look into that world. Callaway uses his forum to examine and perhaps defuse a rift between Blacks and Arabs on Chicago's West Side in the third program."--1989 Peabody Number entry form.
