Program Description
"The program focuses on the personal experiences of a variety of people who were affected by the Vietnam War. Through interviews with twelve people, we hear what these individuals were like before the war, what their war experiences were, how their attitudes changed during and after their experience, and how the war continues to affect their personal lives. The interviewees include combat veterans, a Gold Star mother, and the widow of a veteran who committed suicide. The goal of the program is to compliment the PBS series on Vietnam, which has a strong historical and political bias, with an account of the types of personal [experiences] which the war generated. The interviewees tell their own story without the intrusion of an interviewer or commentator to guide the audience's perceptions; the interviewees proved to be very articulate on the subject.
