Program Description
"ZOO MAN is a documentary on the life and work of Marlin Perkins, world-famous zoologist, educator, and television host of the premiere nature program, MUTUAL OF OMAHA'S WILD KINGDOM. The program looks at Marlin Perkins' life beginning with his childhood in rural Carthage, Missouri, and following him through his work and adventures around the world. The program contains footage from his early television shows, ZOO PARADE, and WILD KINGDOM. It also shares with the viewers Marlin's concern for the environment and the continued work done by his widow, Carol Perkins. "The documentary includes footage shot in a 1993 safari in which Carol Perkins took her children and [grandchildren] to Africa to show them the places where she and Marlin spent so much of their lives. "Testimony to the valuable work done by Marlin Perkins is shared by well-known people who share his concern: Sir Edmund Hillary, Betty White, Stefanie Powers (who narrates the program), and Dr. Michael Fox. "The program is a tribute to Marlin Perkins and a testimonial to the continuation of the work he began many years ago."--1994 Peabody Awards entry form.
