Program Description
"Negro sharecroppers and tenant farmers in Heywood County, Tennessee have been organizing a voter registration campaign for two years. This program, recorded under difficult conditions, describes how some of them were evicted from their homes and farms and lost jobs in their attempt to register to vote, according to WBAI. It describes the attitudes of white citizens in the area and the steps they took to prevent registration where possible, the New York station says."--1962 Peabody Awards entry form.
