Episode Description
'Le Ballet Industriel,' the submitted program, uses music and poetry to show another side of technology. The Ingersol-Rand Corporation of Nashua, N.H. produces pulp paper processing machinery, which can also be used to remove environmental pollutants from wastewater, and plastic injection-molding machinery. Set to music by Berlioz and Strauss, their very prosaic manufacturing processes take on a new life and vitality of their own.--1979 Peabody Awards entry form. On screen text describes the types of heavy machinery that the IMPCO division of Ingersol-Rand manufactures. The program consists of different shots of workers and the machinery in the factory set to classical music, as the narrator reads the poem "The Memory of Fire" by Elizabeth Longfellow. The program also utilizes the rhythmic sounds and movement of the factory equipment played over the music.
