Episode Description
Host Ernie Pech and high school student David Rust interview X-15 pilot Iven Kincheloe about the development of the X series of manned aircraft, test pilot qualifications, and flight testing at Edwards Air Force base. Includes footage of Chuck Yeager's first flight in an X-1; a 'tiedown' rocket engine test at Edwards Air Force Base; and an X-2 piloted by Colonel Pete Evers being dropped from the mother ship, flying, and landing on skids on a dry lake bed.
Series Description
"The program is aimed at interesting students in engineering careers. Each program asked a question about one of these engineering fields: aeronautical, chemical, electrical, heat and power, human, hydraulic, metallurgical, military, mining, nuclear, petroleum, and structural.
