Program Description
"Our 'Meet the Candidates' presentation to the Peabody Awards is an example of 48 programs produced by WPBT-TV during August, September and October of 1976. Our [videocassette] contains [portions] of the three phases of 'Meet the Candidates'."--1976 Peabody Awards entry form. A selection of highlights from the series are presented Mark Pierce, who moderates presentations by primary election candidates from Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties to educate voters. Excerpt are shown from the introductions of various primary candidates, who explain why voters should vote for them. A debate is shown between Hugo Black and Bill Flynn who discuss taxes, lobbying issues and their relative ages and experience. The next debate is between Anne Kolb and Charlie Friedman who discuss campaign support, education, and the economy. Edward J Healy and C.C. 'Blitz' Robinson then debate about business programs and prisons. Marvin Dunn and Tom Gallagher speak about unemployment, business and the economy. Bob Davis, a socialist candidate and a write-in, discusses his stances as a socialist and what his nomination would mean for the socialist party.
