Description
Program Description
"Three out of every four Texans whose income--or lack of it--puts them below the national poverty line are not eligible for Medicaid, the government insurance program designed to provide medical coverage for poor people in America. They are unwilling participants in a real-life drama that threatens medical care. Their problems and the search for working solutions are examined in this hour-long program. "The documentary examines Dallas' Parkland Memorial Hospital, one of the nation's best and most fiscally sound public hospitals." "Komatsu and crew travel to Brownsville in the Texas Valley, home of one of the highest concentrations of poverty-stricken families in the nation, where there is not a single publicly supported [hospital] for the indigent. This special examines the plight of the medically needy and looks at the dilemma facing community health clinic workers who try to find hospital care for their clients."--1983 Peabody Awards entry form.
