"This documentary follows the 1996 vice-presidential race as it unfolds, while providing a historical look at the role of vice presidents throughout history. The program weaves interviews with Bob Dole, Jack Kemp, Al Gore, Dan Quayle, Walter Mondale, Gerald Ford, Geraldine Ferraro and Jimmy Carter with historical clips and footage from August's vice presidential nominations at the Republican and Democratic Party National Conventions. The result is an up-to-the-minute, entertaining, thought-provoking look at the past, present and future of the office 'one heartbeat away' from the presidency.
