Program Description
"'Out of the Shadows, Into the Sun' is a 30-minute documentary which profiles blind pianist George Shearing and his relationship with his guide dog. Through Shearing's visit to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc., in San Rafael, California, which he made to help himself determine whether or not to get another dog, the viewer is informed about the training of the dogs, what their maneuvers mean and just what the dogs 'see.' The viewer also comes to understand the special relationship between a blind person and his dog and that such a person can function, with the aid of his dog, almost anywhere."--1975 Peabody Awards entry form.
