"The TELEVISION IS FOR LEARNING project was a combined effort by the Public Information, Utilization and Instructional Development and Production departments to increase awareness of the services and programming available from Mississippi ETV to educators and students and to make our agency's services and programming applicable and relevant to the needs of the educational community. The scrapbook, emphasizing preview night, illustrates how all departments work together in making Mississippians aware of ETV's programs and services. Four television programs, briefly described below, are submitted to illustrate production efforts to meet ascertained educational needs."THE WRITE CHANNEL is a fifteen-lesson series of fifteen-minute programs that combine live action, animation and instruction to help third- and fourth-graders learn the basic skills of sentence composition. Capitalization, punctuation, spelling, oral language development and creative writing are natural by-products of the sentence combining techniques featured in the series. "The TELEVISION IS FOR LEARNING project is working. School Accreditation Reports indicates that the number of schools, teachers and students using television is increasing, and public support is in evidence for passage of a bill by the state legislature to finance purchase of educational television equipment for all Mississippi schools."--1978 Peabody Awards entry form excerpts.
