Description
Series Description
"These programs intend to sharpen perceptions, to awaken awareness, helping white youngsters become more conscious of their darker brothers and in their relations with them. Forces in the past (slavery, primarily, but not only) that separated black and white left a residue in the minds of all American's - black and white. We must be conscious of that before we can eradicate it. We must be conscious also of the shared humanity that can bring black and white together again. "The series follows Joe in his search for a present and examines some of the things that affect him - history, heritage, and the voices of contemporary black and white America. "Through Joe, a not-always-right, not-always-wrong, mistake-making, blues-getting, identity-seeking, thoroughly human being, children sense that although people may look different from each other on the outside, on the inside they are very much alike."--1970 Peabody Awards entry form.
