"The documentary 'SWING, BOP & HAND DANCE' celebrates the art form known as 'swing dance', not only as a dance, but a cultural experience. In the African American community, the dance is a part of the diversity of the African American culture. The program studies the history of swing dance from its beginning as the 'Lindy Hop' to the regional swing style dances of today. This program provides education, as well as entertainment to audiences from children to seniors. "'SWING, BOP & HAND DANCE' has received critical acclaim. It recently received a Prized Pieces Award in the category of 'Community Choice/Cultural Affairs Documentary' awarded by The National Black Programming Consortium. It is under consideration for a myriad of awards and is deserving of consideration for a Peabody Award for broadcast excellence."--1997 Peabody Awards entry form.
Description
The program celebrates the swing dance not only as a dance, but a cultural experience. Especially in the African-American community,the dance is a part of the diversity of the African-American cultury. The program also studies the history of swing dance, as well as its sociological advantages. As quoted in the program, "The dance is not just a dance, it's a part of people's lives."
