- "In this period of history when the emphasis in the United States and in the developing nations is on the importance of science and technology in education, a counter effort is needed to show that the humanities can have a direct bearing as well as a significant influence on the lives of all citizens. The role of the humanist in society counterbalances that of the scientist. "The humanities and their impact on society is the theme of the 30-minute special, LIFE AND MIND: PROFILES IN THE HUMANITIES. The program illustrates several situations in which the humanities have affected and illuminated personal and professional behaviors. A psychiatrist, architect and systems designer discuss the importance of studying the humanities and how their respective fields need the clarification that this discipline provides in coping with the changes brought about by new technologies. "Produced by NEW JERSEY NETWORK with a grant from the New Jersey Department of Higher Education, LIFE AND MIND: PROFILES IN THE HUMANITIES is designed to clarify the initiative the Department of Higher Education has taken to promote the study of the humanities.
