14th District Guarini / Catrillo
- Transcript
The. Hudson County maybe just across the river from Manhattan but New York style media campaigns aren't the style here. The 14th district is solidly Democratic embracing the blue collar industrial areas of Jersey City Union City and they own. Although no longer quite the well oiled political machine of one time boss Frank Haig. Hudson County with its longest topless churches newspapers in neighborhoods isn't in any hurry to change. The only significant new factor is the influx of many more Cuban and Latin American voters and their ballots have been going Democratic as well. It may be no surprise then that Republican candidate Charles Cook Trillo sounds very much like a Democrat with a lot of issues stressing his support of the environment urban aid and nuclear disarmament as a single parent. The Trillo also wants more aid for day care centers. But Katrina labeled himself an urban Republican. And number one on his list of priorities is tradition tax credits
for private schools. Detroit agrees with Reagan's economic policy in two years he's cut the prime rate from twenty one point five to. 12 percent. He's got inflation 14 percent to 6 percent and he's only suffered a 2 percent rise in unemployment. I know he's right when he said I'll take responsibility for the two people I put out of work. If the Democrats will take responsibility for the people that were out of work and I took office I think he's got a point there. The 14th District incumbent is Democrat Frank who fell in Congress only since 1978 has snagged some pretty important committee assignments such as the Ways and Means Committee. Interestingly he still has a fairly hefty income from his law practice which as recently as nine hundred eighty gave him an income of more than $900000 a year and right now is the most important issue to you all right now inside we are outstanding senior says from the very concerned about Social Security and how it's going to be affected by the president's policies.
This is a very important question all the senior citizens without social care is going to be cut. My recommendation the president is going to make after the election. They're fearful that he's going to cut back on their callers and things of the kind of heart disease people live on fixed incomes and inflation hurts them more than anybody else in our society. I'm Trish to gas for us.
