Oh We are here at KXP 90.3 FM, just heard Bob Marley and the Weilders with the Shultz Soul Shakedown Party, also had Sharon Jones and the DAP Kings with Be Easy, Local Group, Skycries Mary with Moon Baving, and it started that set off with Wussy, and Gone Missing. I'm cool to 3000 in on the afternoon show for Kevin Cole, and we are live in the KXP studios with hotels who are playing tonight at Chopsui along with Eric Blood and Silver Teeth, but are here right now for you to play.
Here at KXP. I've been the kind of man, but you've just got blooded, too funny, but I don't really
want to go, so that someone might listen to my presence in the nation. You I got my heart into a pocket, but I don't want to know
So that someone with this, my presence, tell me so Because I didn't know what I was missing, Who would be better than what I would ever All I ever had, all I ever had All I ever had, all I ever had, all I ever had
All I ever had, all I ever had, all I ever had, all I ever had These away from them
Don't mind what they have All I ever had, all I ever had,</ The old church of the chorus is while I drift Now shouldn't keep no friends Just the strictest set of rules The truth is, the journey is to ascend The lights of favorites of rules Battles won and lovers lost And I wish it never keeps us cold The spy and breath was just the cost Far and then on the school And an ocean doesn't care If she laughs or if she prots Zip in ocean knows what's fair But what lives in it all does And ocean never shifts a tear For it's made up of the same She may learn but shell for years But an ocean never learns in it But it's lost at sea when it's naked on its side
You lay now with me, I'll rest my heart upon the sun But many nights I dream the dream The song into our mistris deep So the silence to a scream The sirens are only asleep And who's version of the facts But the no one has to tell How my love fell through the cracks Till I sold it for a sale What you seek, you'll never find Answer's brought from the sea Not it, it's hard, nor am I Shall the past you'll never miss But it's hard, nor am I
But it's hard, nor am I But it's hard, nor am I But it's hard, nor am I But it's hard, nor am I
We are live in the KXP studios with hotels Who are playing tonight at Chopsui With Eric Blood and Silver Teeth Thank you for making the time of your day To come in and spend some time with us Thank you for having us. And Blake, can you introduce the band? I sure can. On guitar, we have Brendan Malick On keyboards, young master Kyle Franky Witch, and on drums Who ate his weedies this morning, Max Wood. And you're Blake, can you play? Oh, I'm Blake, I play bass, sing. And since radio is not a visual medium,
Each band member is wearing a dress shirt, dress pants and name tags Making me feel very under-dressed Is that all part of the hotels theme And how did that come about? It is part of the theme And it came about, I used to work in a hotel A couple of us actually work in a hotel And this is the same uniform that I wore To work in a hotel. So I was looking to start a new band And I decided to name it hotels And I figured why not have work Both be at work and at play If that makes sense. So congratulations on your latest album Where Hearts Go Broke. You released the CD last Valentine's Day What was the significance of that day Given the name of the album? Well, Valentine's Day is not just for lovers quilty It's for, I don't know, The album is called Where Hearts Go Broke
We have some songs on there Have some romantic overtones Or undertones And just figured it would be a good date to release it on And on your website, you tell the story of one band And two cities Can you explain to listeners what that means And how you played out the making of this album? Well, Max and I both used to live in New York And we started this band about five years ago And then we both moved away Just because we were a little tired in New York But we both wanted to keep playing with the band And I moved out here, I wanted to start a new band But I didn't want to start a new band And play the same type of music And call it a different thing I thought that would be disingenuous So I figured to go complete the opposite direction And just call it the same thing And have two divisions East Coast and West Coast Division So, you know, we got some new people out here We're Kyle and Brendan
And we worked on a kind of different catalog of music And then Max and I both flew back to New York a bunch of times To play some shows and record music with our old Compad rays over there And your music is often categorized as New Wave Does that feel like it's the right name for it? Maybe, maybe it's the closest name I mean, I think it's a little easy for people To kind of categorize us in pigeonholes It's one thing Because we use a synthesizer And you know, we wear named hags a dress up But, you know, we have some stuff in our sets And on the album, which I wouldn't put anywhere near that category though So, you know And Blake, I understand you do soundtracks as well Can you tell us about that? And how does that influence your songwriting for hotels? Well, I guess all the hotels music is kind of It's very cinematic
Because I love soundtrack stuff And yeah, I mean, I think I think hotels is actually a pop band, you know It's kind of a dirty word for some people And an incomprehensible word for others But I think I just try and write songs with, you know, good hooks And good melodies, and then we throw some huge effects on there And kind of make it cinematic And bring our own thing to it And, yeah, try and make it like an end credit for a movie every song And I see hotels are scheduled to play the Capitol Hill block party As well as bumper shoot How does it feel to be playing such high profile gigs? Oh, really great Really cool And is there a third album in the works? You know, what have you got planned coming up for the future? There is a third album in the works We're already started writing some stuff for it The third album is called On the Casino floor Kind of be our take on an intergalactic James Bond movie
Where it takes place in the casino and outer space It's all thematic So look for that later in the year Well, that mean you guys will be wearing a little bit different costumes When you go out on tour next time Maybe, you know, we might pack the Walter PPK In the best pocket, you know Hard to play in a space suit though Again, hotels are playing tonight at Chopsui with Eric Blood and Silver Teeth You got a couple more in you for us? I think so Hotel's live here at KXP We heard Kevin was out sick today So this one's for him, it's called Kite Fight Two to nine, round round, roll
Six to red, round round, roll And then we're ten, lost a time, roll Six to nine, roll Six to nine, roll So long it's all been tonight, but they show you that I'm a bite So rich in the snow, snow, the sun's so good So long it's all natural, we hope to die that long Six to nine, roll Six to nine, roll
And then we're ten, lost a time, roll Six to nine, roll Four to nine, roll Four to nine, roll Five to nine, roll Six to nine, roll Draws the lines over this So long it's all been tonight, roll And then we're ten, roll So long it's all been tonight, roll So long it's all been tonight, roll
Four to nine, roll Okay this last one is for KXB Who has supported us and played a bunch of our albums
