You have been listening to a live broadcast of today's hearing called by the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee today under the chairmanship of Senator William Fulbright. The committee has questioned Professor John K. Fairbank director of Harvard's East Asian Research Center. This is the second in a series of hearings on Communist China its military and political posture and United States policy toward it. WGBH radio in Boston and W. F. C. R. in Amherst have arranged this unusual live broadcast of the Senate hearings for several important reasons. Though just as crucial as the hearings of the past five weeks this week sessions are not receiving equal coverage from the commercial news networks in the Boston area particularly the newspaper strike has made it even more difficult for the public to obtain complete information on these hearings. The hearings which are concerned with the most critical foreign policy issue facing the United States today. Owing to the considerable difficulties of breaking into the network pool broadcast
connections with the committee room we were not able to bring you live coverage of Tuesday's hearings. Today however we carried the hearings direct from Washington with Professor John K. fair a bank from beginning until adjournment for those of you who were not able to hear the complete broadcast. We invite you to tune in to WGBH FM this coming Saturday at 1 o'clock for a repeat of the hearing in its entirety. If you appreciate this special service in view of the limited coverage available elsewhere elsewhere please let us know. And in the afternoon the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will be questioning Professor Otto Eckstein of Harvard on the economic situation in China today. Today's hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee offered the testimony of Professor John K. Fairbank Harvard professor and director of the East Asian Research Center. This was the second in a series of hearings called on Communist China and American foreign policy with particular reference to the war in Vietnam.
