Description
Series Description
"The entry for this year's 'In Performance at Wolf Trap' series presents three of the five special performances taped at the Wolf Trap Park For The Performing Arts, outside Washington, D.C. "Beverly Sills stars in Verdi's tragic opera 'La Traviata', with tenor Henry Price, baritone Richard Fredricks and Julius Rudel conducting the Filene Center Orchestra; 'An Evening of Ballet' presents ballet superstar Mikhail Baryshnikov in his television debut performing selections from five ballets, accompanied by ballerinas Gelsey Kirkland, Martine Van Hamel and Marianna Tcherkassky; and 'Cleo Laine, John Dankworth & Ensemble' shows the English singer and her composer/conductor husband performing a variety of musical numbers from jazz and blues to pop and poetry. "In addition to her performing roles, Miss Sills also acts as Hostess for the series and introduces the presentations. "The special telecasts are made possible on public television by a grant from Atlantic Richfield Company and are produced by WETA/26, Washington. The Executive Producer of the series is David Prowitt, and it is produced by Ruth Leon. Directors of the specials are Stan Lathan, Jack Sameth and Kirk Browning. "In addition to the five new productions, the 'In Performance At Wolf Trap' series also broadcast nine special encore performances from the two previous seasons at America's only national park for the performing arts."--1976 Peabody Awards entry form.
